What does being “Catholic” mean?

Catholic (the BIG ‘C’) refers to the Catholic Church – both the western and eastern Church in full communion with the Bishop of Rome (the Pope).
We are a community in relationship. Relationship calls us to responsibility and mutuality in love with God, Jesus, and the community. Catholic also means we are in communion – in relationship – with God, one another, and the world.
Because of this communion – this relationship – with God, one another, and the world, we are called to a specific way of life—a life which calls us to following the ways of Jesus guided by the Gospel AND Tradition.
