Service Opportunities

The following list offers service suggestions to be further developed by the individual Candidates. These suggestions are not the only worthwhile service possibilities; they serve as examples of appropriate service. You are free to plan your own projects according to the interest and concern you feel for others. The items are separated by Church and Community.

Church

To participate in any of the following church activities, please contact Mrs. Mozzillo for scheduling 856-429-1600 ext. 108.

  • Serve as an aide in a classroom for Religious Education students in Kindergarten through Grade 3. You will assist the catechist by working with a few students who need additional help to keep on track during class. This is a weekly commitment.
  • Help with liturgy of the Word for children during the 9:00 and 11:00 A.M. Sunday Mass. You will be placed on a rotation schedule and training will be provided.
  • Join the child care program which takes care of preschool children during 3:45 Religious Ed classes on Monday afternoon. A schedule will be created.
  • Become a Greeter or Usher at Mass or form a weekly patrol to put missalettes away after Mass and to clean up any bulletins or papers left behind in the pews.
  • Service Alerts will be published throughout the year with other opportunities. Some of the opportunities include: First Communion Retreat Day, Vacation Bible School, parish and school retreats, parish wide fall and spring cleaning of the church, preparing for the startup of the new RE school year.
  • Join the music ministry as a cantor, musician or choir member. Contact Mrs. Mickus, the music director in the parish office at 856-429-1600 x 109.
  • Serve as an altar server. You will be trained and then placed on the schedule to serve during Sunday masses.
  • Sign up, as a family, to host coffee hospitality one Sunday after the 9:00 A.M. mass. You may join a few families together for this project.

Community

  • Call Birthright to find out what kinds of things they need for newborn infants; then plan a way to help them, and carry out your plan. You might want to get a group of friends to work with you on this.
  • Volunteer to help an elderly neighbor; do some shopping for your neighbor on a regular schedule that he or she can depend on; rake leaves and shovel snow; or help with chores.
  • Join with some friends and prepare and serve a meal for the Ronald McDonald House (856-966-home www.ronaldhouse-snj.org), or collect TABS, or gather WISH LIST items
  • Call a local animal shelter or orphanage in the area (Voorhees 856-627-9111). Collect materials for the animals, such as - dry and wet cat and dog food, paper towels, animal toys, blankets, feeding bowls, treats
  • Participate in our weekly outings to Kids Alley ( www.kidsalley.org ). Contact Mrs Powles for additional information. Kids Alley is a nonprofit faith-based organization reaching out to inner-city children and their families.

Service Alerts will be published throughout the year as they become available.
