If only we could have bottled all the enthusiasm and joy happening in Morgan Hall in the first week of August at Vacation Bible School, then we could sprinkle it around whenever we need to be reminded that God’s presence is with us wherever we go even when we go off course! Hopping onboard were seventy-eight young travelers between the ages of four and ten. They were reminded how God was with people in the Old and New Testament in a variety of locations and situations, even in places where we wouldn’t always expect God to be. Each day the travelers learned about other travelers of faith – key biblical figures, who chose to follow God. People of faith like Abraham and Sarah, the Israelites, Mary and Elizabeth, Zaccheaus and Paul who began their journeys into the unknown, explored new lands, experienced freedom and joy, had a change of heart and learned generosity, and helped to build the early Church. With the Green Light Verse “the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” taken from Joshua 1:9 leading each day’s activities, the travelers discovered specific ways they can trust God to be with them and equip them to share the good news of Jesus and to serve God and other people.
In addition to the young travelers, thirty student helpers signed on for the journey and led the younger travelers in and out of the daily rotations. Inviting the youth into positions of leadership at VBS reaffirms their value as Church members while engaging their interests and making space for their talents. Most of these student leaders were once youngsters who attended VBS. Leaders, thank you for the work you have done to make VBS a success. Thank you for serving God and guiding children to trust God in every situation.
Many thanks to our patient and committed adult team leaders who are specialists in their areas and eager to serve and lead the travelers in an awesome experience. Behind every successful VBS is a strong team with one goal: to bring the youngsters closer to God through Jesus Christ and help them trust God in every situation. Great job, everyone!
