“Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
When Fr. Gregory Ramkissoon established Mustard Seed Communities in 1978, he brought to life the Gospel truth that faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish extraordinary things (Matthew 17:20).
Serving as a living testimony of sustained grace, Mustard Seed is a sacred space of Holy Communion shared between the weekly service immersion groups (US high schools, colleges, parishes) and the residents, who minister by embodying Jesus in disguise. Last year Christ the King and Christ Our Light experienced this beautiful communion of faith in Jamaica.
At MSC, the words ‘He is Here’ and ‘Thank You Lord’ are everyday expressions of deep gratitude. They capture commitment to seeing God’s grace in every moment—especially in the smiles of the vulnerable children and disabled adults who have found their forever sanctuary.
On Sunday I had the privilege of meeting the Christ the King mission team that will soon be immersed in the life and ministry of Mustard Seed Communities. Their enthusiasm and openness to encounter Christ in the children and residents were truly inspiring. Fr. Gregory’s mantras came to mind – ‘He is Here’ and ‘Thank You Lord’ – as we learned more about the group and their call to service.
