Every successful team depends on people who contribute their unique gifts toward a common purpose. Whether it’s on a playing field or within a family, everyone has a role, and the team is strongest when each person does their part. The celebration of the Mass is no different. While Christ is always at the center of our worship, He invites each of us to share in the work. Through the generosity of parishioners who serve, our liturgies become welcoming, prayerful, and reverent celebrations of our faith.
In fact, it takes approximately 18 people serving in liturgical ministries for each Mass to run smoothly. While the priest leads us, he is supported by a dedicated team of parishioners whose service helps create a meaningful experience for the entire congregation.
Before the first parishioner enters the church, the sacristan has prepared the sanctuary and sacred vessels. Ushers warmly greet everyone, assist parishioners, and take up the collection. Altar servers assist the priest with reverence at the altar, lectors proclaim God’s living Word, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion help distribute the Body and Blood of Christ. Our music ministry leads the assembly in song, encouraging the full, conscious, and active participation of the congregation.
Each ministry has its own responsibilities, but all share the same mission: helping our parish celebrate the sacred liturgy with reverence, order, and joy while lifting our hearts and minds to God. Every person serving, whether highly visible or quietly working behind the scenes, plays an essential role in the success and smoothness of the Mass.
