Pilgrims of Hope

Pope Francis declared 2025 a Jubilee Year with the theme ”Pilgrims of Hope.”  In the document entitled Specs Non Confundit (Hope Does Not Disappoint) he declared the purpose of the Jubilee: to invite everyone to an intense experience of the love of God that awakens in the hearts the sure hope of salvation in Christ (SNC6).”  Catholics around the world are celebrating in many ways including prayer, the sacraments, pilgrimages, and acts of charity.

Christ the King is spreading His love and the hope it promises through an Art Show!  For many people, creativity is a powerful, prayerful experience connecting with the Creator’s life within.

Bill Lane, talented artist, says, “I always hope that my artwork, which often is my memories of a travel experience, connect with the viewers and spark memories and conversations of their own travels.  The experiences of learning about new cultures, tasting new foods, and meeting interesting people make traveling a fun adventure.  I have realized that God has created a very diverse world and it is good.”

Jennifer Coelho, potter and manager of the studio at Markeim Arts Center shares,” when creating on my own, pottery is grounding and meditative. Even better, when the studio is buzzing with the activity and artists’ hands are covered in mud, learning new skills, pushing the limits of the clay, a vulnerability lends itself to easy sharing, encouragement and many laughs.  This community and belonging brings me so much hope.”

Parishioners of all ages are encouraged to participate with submissions of drawings, paintings, coloring, fiber arts, 3D art (e.g. dioramas, LEGO creations, flower arrangements), poetry, music, photography, and short stories.  Skies the limit!  The theme of the show is hope.

Makers may submit a new creation or a piece made years ago; as long as it speaks “hope.” We will have maker days in the next few weeks in conjunction with our regularly scheduled programming (Religious Ed, Family Mass, Project Serve, Teen Mass). Works created at the parish will be kept until showtime.  Works of Hope created off campus will be collected the weekend of November 15-16.  Please use the QR code to register your piece(s).

Jennifer Coelho is a member of our Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and leader of a Faith Sharing Group.
