We had an intimate and prayerful gathering on September 9 for our first Divine Mercy Chaplet Holy Hour. The evening was led by Deacon Mike Scott, assisted by two of our altar servers, and uplifted by the beautiful music of our Music Ministry. What makes this devotion so meaningful is the way the Divine Mercy Chaplet draws us into the heart of God’s mercy, uniting our prayers with Christ’s sacrifice and offering them for the whole world.
Deacon Mike shared his own journey of faith, which began many years ago. While at Mass in the early 1990s, during the moment of Consecration, he clearly heard the words: “I want you to be my Deacon.” At the time, he was serving as a lector, raising four children with his wife Sue, and unsure of what to make of this call. He first confided in his pastor, Father Dan Rocco, who said, “Pray on it.” Two weeks later, Mike again heard the same message at Mass. After sharing this second message with Sue, he entered the Diaconate program with 124 others. Six years of study and formation followed, and in 1999, Deacon Mike was ordained along with just 12 of his classmates. He remains deeply grateful for these men, now his brothers in Christ, as well as Father Rocco, who always offers him his love, time, and support.
Over the years, his devotion to the Holy Spirit has only deepened. He encourages anyone discerning the Diaconate to listen closely, because if the idea is in your heart, it may be the Spirit planting the seed. He also spoke about the joy he finds in giving his time to others, calling it one of the greatest rewards of ministry.
The past two years have been especially challenging for Deacon Mike as he faced serious health struggles. Many days were filled with uncertainty, yet he never let go of the rosary, his faith, or his commitment to share the mercy of Christ. For him, the rosary brings him back to Christ, while the Chaplet is a prayer of trust—asking God, through His Son, to pour out mercy on us and on the whole world.
We invite you to accept this opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration and join us on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 PM, an invitation to individual growth through community prayer.
