One Family in Faith, One Family in Mission
Older generations will remember Archbishop Fulton Sheen through his weekly media broadcasts. First on the radio (The Catholic Hour) in 1930, then moving into television (Life Is Worth Living) in 1951, influencing tens of millions of people all over the world bringing them to know Christ and his Church.
Among his many accomplishments in Catholic broadcasting and while the sitting National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in 1951, Bishop Sheen designed the World Mission Rosary. In his own words: “We must pray [the Rosary], and not for ourselves, but for the world.” Consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mother from baptism, Fulton Sheen continued this devotion his entire life, calling her the “world’s first love.”
Each color of the Rosary represents a different area where the Church continues its mission of evangelization: Yellow for the morning light of the East, for Asia; Red calling to mind the fire of faith that brought missionaries to the Americas; White symbolizing Europe, the seat of the Holy Father, shepherd of the world; Blue for the ocean surrounding the Islands of the Pacific; and Green for the forests and grasslands of Africa.
Soon, Bishop Sheen will be beatified on September 24 in St. Louis thereby declaring him worthy of public veneration. In celebration of one of the greatest Catholic evangelists in American history, the Pontifical Mission Societies, USA hopes to have 70,000 World Mission Rosaries made by the Rosary Making Ministries throughout the world. The Rosary Making Ministry here at Christ the King wishes to be a part of this historic moment by pledging to make 1,000 rosaries.
Each Rosary will be blessed before the Beatification and prayed long after September 24. Please keep our Ministry members in your prayers as we work to achieve our goal by September 15th. If you are interested in learning how to make rosaries, the training is brief and our trainers are very patient. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in discerning whether you are being called to this ministry.
