Considerable time and energy go into preparing couples for the vocation of married life. Before completing the Sacrament of Marriage at Christ the King, engaged couples participate in an off-campus Pre-Cana workshop, meet with their celebrating priest multiple times, and complete a questionnaire on marital topics to identify strengths and opportunities. Recently, Father Jon organized a small team of married couples who will meet with the engaged couples to interpret their questionnaire results. Designed to foster open and respectful conversation and offer strategies for positive communication when addressing sensitive topics and points of disagreement, these sessions will further enhance the preparation period for each couple. It is essential to the success and happiness of the relationship for the couples to be faithfully equipped for the journey ahead.
Bishop Robert Barron, the chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, recently remarked, “At a time when relationships are often viewed as disposable. The commitment to fidelity and love that marriage entails is a source of hope for all generations.” At CTK, we recognize that couples can find fulfillment and a source of energy when they have a community of like-minded individuals. This is why we host our annual Celebration of Marriage. More than just a celebration, this event is a testament to the value and importance of each couple in our parish, a recognition of their commitment and a source of inspiration for all.
On the first Friday in February, over 50 couples renewed their vows during Mass and then joyfully shared stories and laughter at a reception in our elegantly decorated hall. Parishioner Merri Votta, who, with her husband John, spoke at our event last year, appreciates our annual celebration. She noted that the beauty of this event is that it celebrates married couples navigating the joys and struggles of a daily routine. She added that folks often cling together against the tide and lean into the promises they made on their wedding day.
